Army, Marine, Navy and Air Force Divorce Attorney in Garvin County

A divorce is stressful. Military divorces are even more complicated. It is important to get a lawyer who knows how to handle a military divorce, regardless of whether you or your ex-spouse are serving overseas or are retired from service.

The Oklahoma military divorce attorneys at The Law Office of Keith J. Nedwick, P.C., in Norman, are available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan, we will be available to take your call at any hour. Contact our firm to discuss divorce representation.

Active Duty Service Members Serving Overseas

In order to be served with divorce paperwork, one spouse must meet the state's residency requirements. The divorce can be filed in Oklahoma if you or your spouse has lived in Oklahoma for at least six months. If you are unsure about whether Oklahoma is the correct place for your divorce, our firm can help answer your questions.

If a service member is currently serving overseas and is served with divorce papers, he or she has the right to postpone the divorce. This doesn't mean the divorce has to be postponed. The choice to have the divorce finalized while abroad also exists.

Whatever the decision, we will defend your interests here in Oklahoma. We will work to ensure that your divorce comes at a time that works for you.

Retired Service Members and Their Pensions

If you were married while you or your spouse served in the military, any military pension becomes marital property. This means that it is subject to division in a divorce. The court will decide how much of the pension each spouse is entitled to receive. Our lawyers will vigorously defend your right to the pension to ensure a fair settlement in your divorce.

Child Support and Alimony

Upon separation, a service member is required to pay support to his or her family. Wages cannot be garnished but if a service member does not pay, he or she could be subject to punishment under military law. Each branch of the military has different standards for support. Our firm can handle your child support or alimony issues in Oklahoma.

If you are on active duty, are retired from the military, or if you have a spouse in the Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force, contact our firm to speak to an Oklahoma military divorce lawyer.
